Top 5 ways to help dress your home to improve sale-ability

Top 5 ways to help dress your home to improve sale-ability 19 Oct 2018

While there is a high level of demand for property these days, there is still a need to be proactive in the selling of your property. This means you should be looking for ways to improve your home and appeal to potential buyers. Here are the top 5 ways to help dress your home to improve saleability.

Clean and declutter your home

This should always be the starting point when it comes to preparing your home for a sale. The decluttering process is crucial because it creates more space, which is very important for buyers. With more space, you’ll find that the value of your property will rise, so this is an important step. It is also important to declutter your home because this makes the cleaning process easier.

Decluttering is also important because it helps to remove some of the personal elements of the house. You want a potential buyer to imagine themselves living in the home, and this can be difficult if the property is full of your memories and special moments. Creating a blank canvas for a potential buyer will help them to picture themselves living in the property.

You want to make sure that your home is as clean as possible; aiming for a showroom level of cleanliness, and this is a big factor in presenting your home. Whether you clean the property yourself or you hire a cleaning professional/firm to do the job for you is up to you but a clean and decluttered home is the best starting point to impress a buyer.

Provide storage options

Following on from the importance of cleaning and decluttering to ensure that there is as much space as possible in the home, there is a lot to be said for providing storage options within the home or attached to the home.

Stylish storage boxes can be bought for affordable prices these days or if you closet or cupboard space, you should consider placing some storage options in as opposed to just leaving them blank. By presenting a solution, rather than a blank space, you make it easier for a buyer to see the potential of a property.

Ensure there is a warm welcome Freshen up the Kitchen

You want your guests to receive a warm welcome at your property and your front door area is very important in creating the right impression. Your

front door should be welcoming but equally, it should be robust and reliable. It can be hard to combine functionality and flair but ensuring your door is in good condition, updating its safety features and giving it a fresh coat of paint will go a long way in ensuring that people appreciate the entrance of your property.

You should also consider additional flourishes such as providing a welcome mat or placing a hanging basket at your front door.

Freshen up the Kitchen Kerb appeal counts

There was a spell when property experts recommended installing a new kitchen to improve the value of your home and appeal to potential buyers but in more recent times, the advice has been more subtle. There is no need to completely overhaul your kitchen but you should ensure it is stylish, functional and carries a few pieces that are appropriate to its style. If you have a modern kitchen style, add in the latest gadgets but if you have a traditional kitchen, make sure that your appliances are in keeping with the style.

If you are planning on redecorating in the kitchen, remember to do so with a focus on general tastes as opposed to what you prefer.

Kerb appeal counts

Your front door is important in creating a positive impression but the whole outside of your property has a role to play in appealing to potential buyers. This is called “kerb appeal” and given that people will see the outside of your home before they see the inside, the quality and condition of your garden will impact on what people think about your home.

Much like the inside, you need to clean and declutter, which means removing all weeds and power hosing any paths or walkways. You don’t have to be “green-fingered” to create a good looking garden but you should look to add some seasonal colour around the garden area. If you are pushed for space, a window-box or hanging basket can add a nice touch.

As a homeowner looking to sell your property, you should be looking to do what you can improve the saleability of your property. Following these tips will give you an advantage over other homes in the area.
